NAME THAT BIRD! Web Site
Launched
E-mail Your Images of Unknown Birds to
NAME THAT BIRD! for Identification.
Over 50 million Americans watch or
feed birds. One of the major challenges of this hobby can
be the identification of the birds they see. The NAME THAT
BIRD! Web site (www.NameThatBird.com) provides a free
identification service.
Bird watchers can e-mail a digital
image of the unknown species to the experts at NAME THAT
BIRD! The images can be scanned or taken with a digital
camera.
Everyone submitting an image will
receive a response. Selected images are placed on the Web
site for review and comments.
This new service takes advantage of
the increased popularity of digital cameras and the use of
the Internet by bird watchers. The service is provided
free of charge and is part of the Birdzilla.com network of
Web sites. Birdzilla.com is one of the largest wild bird
Web sites and includes services such as a free on-line life
database and the Bent series on the natural history of North
American birds (over 8000 pages of information).
